AHA holt sich den 1. Platz für die Zentralklinik Ottakring, Wien
We are pleased to announce that AHA – Austrian Healthcare Architects, consisting of F+P Architekten, Architects Collective, and SWAP Architekten, has won 1st place in the EU-wide architectural competition for the new construction of the Zentralklinik Ottakring. This success marks another milestone for our firm in the field of healthcare architecture.
As part of the largest modernization program in the history of the Vienna Health Network, Klinik Ottakring will undergo a comprehensive renewal by 2040, all while continuing hospital operations. Our design emerged victorious from numerous international competitors and will now serve as the foundation for the new construction and redesign of the clinic.
The decision was made by a 12-member expert jury chaired by the renowned Swiss architect Daniele Marques. The AHA design impressed with its clear, user-friendly circulation that meets the needs of patients, staff, and visitors alike.
The AHA Design in Detail
The new building will feature a spacious, light-filled entrance hall, where visitors will be welcomed at an information point. The base of the central building will house all medical facilities, including outpatient clinics, the central emergency department, and operating rooms. The patient wards will be located above, complete with large rooftop terraces designed as relaxation areas for both patients and visitors.
A special focus is placed on the ecological sustainability of the project. A significant portion of the new construction will be made from the natural material wood, reducing the ecological footprint while providing a pleasant indoor climate. Additionally, a large park will be created at the center of the clinic grounds, serving as a green oasis for relaxation.
Construction Timeline and Outlook
The new construction of the clinic, covering a total area of around 68,900 m², is set to begin in 2026 and will be implemented in several phases until 2040. Throughout the construction period, hospital operations will continue, presenting a unique challenge for the planning process.
We look forward to the realization of this forward-looking project and are proud to contribute further to the advancement of healthcare infrastructure.
