A multi-story laboratory building will be built on the “Marxquadrat” property. The focus is on designing an efficient and sustainable building.

The structure is divided into three equivalent components. Its orthogonal floor plan structure allows for efficient laboratory utilization (e.g. room divisions, furnishings) and modular use of the hybrid zone.

The three components are slightly offset from each other, thus structuring the long sides of the building. Playfully arranged single-story bays (“add-ons”) interlock the building volumes and give the building its unmistakable, identity-creating character.

The centerpiece of the foyer is a 2-storey atrium. The semi-public seminar area on the garden side, with lounge areas in front, is directly connected to the quiet terrace. A green buffer serving as visual and noise protection to the neighboring garage and subordinate outbuildings (bicycle garage) to the side entrances and exits of the service yard significantly improve the microclimate and offer the researchers a high-quality outdoor area. The project distinguishes itself through an optimal intertwinement of ecologically sustainable (operational) energy and (construction) material flows. The building, therefore, fulfills the DGNB/ÖGNI GOLD quality requirements.
