New Building Student Home and Partial Refurbishment School Schrems

The vocational training school in the small countryside town of Schrems is located in and around the historically protected Schloss Schrems.  The building project comprises the construction of new student residential accommodation, a new entrance and partial renovation of the historic Schloss.

The building line established by the castle is continued along Budweiser Straße however the visual impact of the new building is carefully reduced by breaking up the accommodation into smaller parts, reflecting and reinforcing the characteristic local urban character of small domestic-scale buildings set along the street.

The completed school forms a harmonious whole structured around three attractive courtyards, each with a diferent character.  The main entrance and break area are located in the middle of the extended school and can be accessed from both the car park and the street, providing easy orientation around a new indoor and outdoor space, a new heart for the school.
