Vienna,

Apollogasse 19,

Austria

The former administrative building of the Sophienspital in Vienna is being converted into a residential complex with additional communal facilities.

The existing building is being renovated and extended to create modern apartments, including a new two-storey rooftop extension and a new medical practice on the ground floor.

In the central courtyard, the annex buildings will be demolished and replaced with a new five-storey residential extension. The lowest level will accommodate a new multi-purpose sports hall, while the top level will feature a rooftop terrace for shared use.

By limiting the existing structure, including the vertical extension, to five storeys, the horizontal line of the existing cornice is maintained, thereby preserving the urban character.

Apartments facing the courtyard enjoy attractive views of various green spaces: into the landscaped inner courtyards, toward Sophienpark, and across the southern boundary to the park of the Lazarist Church.
