Expansion of BG School Building Zirkusgasse

A historically protected 1899 high school building is being brought back to life through small, sensitive but targeted alterations. The key elements of the conversion and extension work are as follows: reinvigoration of the existing building’s interiors, a roof extension over the school hall wing, a new underground sports hall, a new two-storey classroom wing and the creation of an attractive forecourt and main entrance.

The urban planning concept addresses the relationship of the new building to its surroundings. A new teaching wing mirrors the existing school hall wing, creating a new entrance courtyard defining a clear and welcoming school entrance. The new construction has been carefully sited so as to avoid damage to existing mature trees.

1st PLACE AT THE “VIENNA URBAN RENEWAL AWARD” (“WIENER STADTERNEUERUNGSPREIS”) 2025

The project BG/BRG Zirkusgasse 48, 1020 Vienna was awarded GOLD in the category “Outstanding Achievement” by the jury of the “Wiener Stadterneuerungspreis”.
