Net usable area: 3.180 m²
The competition focused on the design of a building for the specified pathogen-free housing of laboratory animals, including experimental rooms with a gross floor area of approximately 3,300 m².
The geometry of the building volume results from the optimization of the relationship between area and volume, which not only explains the floor plan configuration but was also consistently carried through into the third dimension. In addition, the building responds to the predominant orientations of the existing campus buildings. The resulting crystalline form also integrates the building services level into a cohesive and architecturally refined whole.
