Haus der Barmherzigkeit
Architecture

The nursing home is divided into 8 shared apartments with 18 persons each. The central square provides access to 2 shared apartments on the ground floor, while the other 6 apartments are located on the two upper floors in 3 radially arranged units.
The general area is intended to have the effect of a VILLAGE SQUARE, with an associated chapel, a cafeteria, hairdresser and therapy rooms. The chapel receives natural light through a skylight and can be combined with the adjoining meeting room: both rooms are also opened generously to the village square and can be used for common events.
Particular importance is attached to the dining areas, lounge and living areas with adjoining kitchen and front terrace. They should be perceived by the users as an oasis of well-being, entice them out of their rooms and allow them to enjoy the daily routine together.
The open space of the “Haus der Barmherzigkeit” is inspired by plant structures: Leaf and flower as the basic form of nature. Barrier-free and spacious paths, various seating areas, stimulating offers for active outdoor recreation and lots of greenery are features of this open space.
