Psychiatry at Klinik Favoriten Vienna

1100

Vienna,

Kundratstraße 3,

Austria

Commissioned by the Vienna Health Association (WIGEV), a modern new psychiatric building is being constructed on the grounds of Klinik Favoriten in Vienna. It is located in direct proximity to the Mother-Child Center, whose architectural language and urban placement are referenced and further developed in the design.

The façade design is oriented toward the future Central Emergency Department of Klinik Favoriten and is structured into a defined base zone and an articulated system in the upper floors. From a partially two-storey base, two interlocking building volumes emerge, representing the functional separation between adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. Inner courtyards provide natural daylight to the wards, while generous roof gardens enhance the quality of stay for patients in the spirit of healing architecture. The building comprises four above-ground and two below-ground floors and is connected to the existing infrastructure via an underground logistics collector.

Use and Circulation

Access is organized according to functional areas: adult psychiatry is accessed from the northwest, while the entrance for children and adolescents is located in the southwest. A separate, independent route is provided for the hospital school.

The ground floor accommodates outpatient clinics, day clinics, and central service areas. Inpatient care units are arranged on the upper floors. The hospital school, therapy rooms, and infrastructure are located in the partially daylit basement.

The extensively greened roof area on the top floor offers additional therapeutic open spaces for gardening as well as for sports activities on a dedicated sports field, which can be directly used by the care units.
