Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin laboratory building Adlershof

A new laboratory and office building is being created as a new ensemble, which takes up the main urban development directions of the surrounding buildings. The building, constructed in timber hybrid construction, blends in well with the surrounding structure in its simplicity and aims to take up the dialogue and make a contemporary architectural statement.

The (first) 3 building sections are combined into one compact structure with the guiding idea of a resource-saving and sustainably developed building. The future fourth building section, whose use has not yet been defined, is deliberately developed as a polygonal solitaire in order to be open for possible new developments in the future.

This excitingly structured building with its bright, recessed entrance zone and the prism with curtain-type timber construction above it is a self-confident, identity-creating gesture!

The façade, structured with a wooden lamella grid, divides the building structure and mediates to the smaller building structures of the surroundings. The wooden slats and the horizontal bands change the appearance of the building from skeleton-permeable to sculptural-compact, depending on the perspective.
