Competition

WINNER! 1st Place German Environment Agency Bad Elster (DE)

Dec 2024

We are pleased to announce that we have won first place in the competition for the new laboratory facility of the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt) in Bad Elster (DE). This forward-thinking project includes the expansion and construction of state-of-the-art laboratory and office spaces, specifically designed to meet the requirements of environmental research in the field of “drinking water and bathing water hygiene.”

At the heart of our design is the sustainable and flexible use of the new research facility. It is optimally prepared to address both current and future challenges in environmental research. We placed particular emphasis on the high adaptability of the building to seamlessly accommodate future functional changes. Additionally, we have considered the specific needs of the various laboratory units to create a productive and efficient working environment.

The new building combines cutting-edge technology with innovative, energy-efficient solutions that will reduce the ecological footprint of the German Environment Agency’s facility in Bad Elster. Sustainable measures include:

  • Green facades to improve air quality and thermal insulation
  • Energy generation through vertical facade and horizontal roof-mounted photovoltaic modules
  • Surface water use to reduce water consumption
  • Geothermal energy for efficient heating and cooling of the building
  • Evaporation energy for further energy savings

With this project, we are making an important contribution to the development of sustainable and environmentally conscious architecture in Germany. We look forward to realizing this significant undertaking and paving the way for a sustainable future in environmental research.
